I was pleasantly surprised that I'd be able to show this one this early. Dungrove Elder is one of the first cards spoiled for the upcoming Magic 2012 core set. I always enjoy any chance to paint trees. It's oils on paper mounted to MDF, 12" x 16".

Wow man, beautiful light.
ReplyDeleteNice !
ReplyDeleteHe's silhouetted so nice. Did the colors really change that drastically from painting to printing? crazy.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are great !
ReplyDeleteReally loving that silhouette. How long does it usually take you to paint a Magic card in oils?
ReplyDelete@Eric-afraid so. Some colors seem to do that. Usually they print heavier on the magenta end. This one seemed to just be more saturated/contrasted. Whatever, as long as it looks ok, I'm fine with it.
ReplyDelete@Chun Lo- Depends, but not including the conceptualizing/ sketching/reference phase, the actually painting time is about 2-4 days.
wow, what a beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog. Beautiful work! I'll definitly come back for more =)
ReplyDeleteHey Matt! Nice work, really dig the color scheme. Well done :)
