Loving this, Matt! I really dig the looseness of your sketches. I'd love to see your take on Bilbo and the trolls he encounters. That would be so awesome to see.
Thanks!-Alan Lee has had a huge influence on me on how I draw, with his imagery, and also the way he draws with a wandering line, constantly correcting itself. Hopefully 'll get around to doing painting of that scene in the Hobbit.
I think you'd do a pretty solid rendition of that scene. It all comes down to the faces of the trolls, I think. I've tried that Alan Lee wandering line myself, it's a nice technique in that it lends itself to covering mistakes real well, and looks deliberate at the same time. The man's a genius!
It's a great way to think about drawing when you're trying to pull the feeling of something out of your head. I've read interviews where he says that what all he starts out with -a feeling, and lets the pencil find its own way. It's harder than it sounds though:)
